ELECTION STYLE SHOWDOWN- STYLING POLLS!

With 93% of first impressions based on non verbal communication, with over half of that based on appearance alone. It got me thinking, how are the 3 leading men, carrying themselves in the public eye? Here is the election style showdown... who gets your style vote?

Gordon Brown- Labour

The less fortunate out of the 3 men, in his appearance and overall presence, despite having suits from Savile row. Nonetheless, Gordon is wearing the correct colour in his ties! Often seen wearing pink or red ties. Pink and red, are safe colours and there are no stigmas attached to such colours, and are ideal for a business situation. As red connotes, strength, power action, and pink portrays approachability. Is Gordon doing this for you?

David Cameron- Conservative

Mr slick rick Cameron. He is very at ease in front of the camera, and can hold himself extremely well. Although in my eyes it seems too rehearsed, and therefore a tad less genuine. (My own opinion people) He is often seen wearing blue ties, which is great for his cool colouring. Again a very generic and safe colour and ideal for networking situations. As blue is the colour to wear for popularity and respect. As we are suppose to trust the boys in blue, do you trust Cameron?

Nick Clegg- Lib Dem

The underdog with a strong bite. The young pup is definitely making an impact. He is very natural and dresses accordingly. With warm colouring he wears mainly yellow and gold ties, which is an original colour to wear, and showcases commemorativeness. As yellow and gold are the colour to wear for innovation, which harmonises with the Lib Dem’s manifesto, is Nick the man for the job...change?

Now for the ladies in power....

Labour- Official party colour...red. Sarah Brown wears full on colour blocking, the resident first lady marks a suitable yet firm dedication to the cause.

Conservative-Official party colour...blue. Samantha Cameron. Sam Cam is not averse to hitting the blue end of the colour spectrum, and has a wardrobe of easy tailoring with bold statement pieces, very un-conservative like indeed!

Lib Dem- Official party colour...gold. Miriam Durantez mother of three, Miriam is by far the most exotic of the Westminster's wives. This Spanish senorita chooses bold colours and timeless classics.

So even though the men are in the lime light, I believe it is the women that are the secret weapon to the next Parliament win. Which party comes out on top, in your style opinion?

JUNGLE FEVER

A recent trip to a safari park, has inspired me to writes this:

After seeing jungle like creatures such as tigers, zebras and snakes, last week it got me thinking about prints and patterns on clothes....as everybody who knows me- knows... I LOVE PRINTS, I have the whole jungle at my disposal in my wardrobe. I have zebra, leopard, giraffe the list goes on, in shoes, bags, tops, skirts and dresses (see pics).

So I am very happy to say that the tribal and animal print trends this season are as HOT as the African heat!! yah....

Fans of the leopard print, will see more unusual colour combinations being used, with infusions of pale blue, pinks and multi-colours. Cuts and style will be very much in line with ' me Tarzan, you Jane', in terms of slashed and ragged effects.

Fashion shoots surrounding the jungle fever have been amazing in my eyes, featuring a look somewhere between avant garde and aboriginal, the jungle/ tribal collection features looks frankly a little scary, but captivating nonetheless. I can just imagine the sheer amount of time required to prepare a shoots like these (not to mention the vast amount of mossy repellent needed)

Absolutely incredible.....

SPRING CLEAN

Spring is in the air! The flowers are blooming, the birds are serenading. Spring is a time of fresh starts, and clear outs. From improving your home to looking good, changing your job or moving away, it’s all about making changes to de-clutter your life, and feel great!
After rummaging through my own wardrobe last night, frantically looking for ‘those’ particular pair of shoes. I realised myself it was time for a wardrobe detox... after all you must practise what you preach!!

So fellow readers, it must be said that a cluttered wardrobe equals a cluttered mind, a ruthless overhaul can give new energy to your style! As there is nothing like starting the ‘new’ with a wardrobe full of clothes you actually like, wear and need for the coming months.

I have found that the best and easiest way to tackle a clients wardrobe is to first of all empty all the clothes onto the bed separating them into three piles- Yes, No and Maybe. The no garments should be put into a bag, and ready to be sent to a suitable charity. The yes pile stays to one side, and the maybe pile is what you need to tackle. Ask yourself these simple questions:

•Have you worn this garment in the past year?
•Does it fit me now?
•Is it comfortable to wear?
•Do I look good in it? (Is it your colour and flattering to your bodyshape?)
•Do I feel good in it?
•Do I own too many of the same thing?
•Does it fit into my current lifestyle?

After this is done, you should refold and put back neatly your newly selected clothes.
Not only does clearing out your wardrobe give you a huge mental lift but it also allows you to move forward in developing your own fashion style to enable you to feel more confident and self-assured. It also saves you time in the evening in finding those all important pair of shoes, that go with that coral dress you are so desperate to wear.

Happy spring cleaning folks....

Fashion in Feb

Hello Followers, I must apologise for the fact I haven’t written a blog in over 20 days which is so unlike moi- it has been the most busy time for me, which is never a bad thing so I can not complain, plus fashion week is in full motion.
First and foremost, I must pay tribute to the late Alexander the Great, I mean McQueen. He was truly one of the best designers, our country had ever seen- RIP.

The department store Debenhams have had 3 big changes in recent weeks, and as I am an instore personal shopper, the changes haven’t gone unnoticed.

Firstly When I heard that Principles was coming back I was quite excited, finally I could get black trousers that fit perfectly again- was the first thing that sprung to mind. I always loved the classy, sophisticated daywear that the brand was known for. However knowing that Ben de Lisi is now at the helm has only fuelled my enthusiasm. Ben has such a passion for design it can only do wonderful things for the collection and he’s put in some modern twists too to keep things fresh and interesting. Debenhams have already seen a great positive response from the brand, within the first few weeks. I certainly have sold quite a number of garments!

Last week, Debenhams also welcomed H by Henry Holland through their doors. The fashion pieces available are definitely Henry’s famous prints and bright colours as well as exclusive bags and accessories. The collaboration can only do great things for Debenhams and Holland is:
“Thrilled to be on a roster with such esteemed names and to be working with such a great business partner as Debenhams”

The third most inspirational change for Debenhams is that Debenhams has become the first department store to use size 16 mannequins in its shops, in an attempt to have models that reflect the shape of real women in Britain. With the average women a size 14-16, in the Uk- using size 16 mannequins in the window display, is definitely more obtainable in comparison to the size 8 models used prior. Garments are stocked up to size 26 in its womenswear department, which 42 per cent of its sales coming from size 14 and 16.

Initially only a handful of size 16 mannequins will appear, but Debenhams insisted that if customers liked the idea they would ensure more were used.
As it is good to have mannequins that reflect the diversity of female shapes in Britain. As the old saying goes- Bigger- Better- Beautiful!

February is the official month of LOVE. However I am not going to go on about Valentines etc…. But more importantly about loving YOURSELF!

Seven ways to fabulousness by KemiStyle- in order to love yourself to the fullest this February (and year round)

1. Self Awareness: Do you really know who you are?

2. 7 seconds 1st impression rule: Do you portray your true self in those vital 7 secs. It has been known that it takes a further 20 rendezvous with someone to change that initial 1st impression.

3. Personal packaging: Dressing, and overall personal appearance.

4. Silent indicators: Non verbal communication- handshake, body language and facial expressions.

5. Voice: Quality, tone, and pace.

6. Social skills and visibility: Mingle, mingle mingle. Be interested in other people, as it helps you to be a more interesting and knowledgeable person. Making you more impactful, therefore more memorable.

7. Consistency: Be true to yourself from your personality to your personal appearance- nobody likes flaky and fake people. When you know the answer to question 1, question 7 should come naturally!

So to love yourself and your personal brand, is the best valentines day present you can get….well unless you get whisked of to Rome or Paris!!! Lol

I like to think of our ‘personal brand’, as what people say about us behind our back. How we describe other people when they are not there. Our brand is there already, we just have to take control of it so people see and LOVE us for who we really are…
